Paul Anne Southern

I'm so sorry to hear of Doug leaving us. He was my boss/leader at Woodland Camp in the 80's and what a great example of a godly man, mentor and friend he was. As I haven't seen Doug in many years, I look forward to seeing Doug again in the fullness of time. Paul Southern, paulsouthern@live.com

Doug was an angel in my husband's and my eyes.
We knew him for many years, probably 30 or more.
Shared so many good times together and also some sad ones. He was a very close friend of my cousin Dot (Peanut) Montgomery, a name he gave her.
I always hoped at some time in their lives they would get married but it wasn't to be. Just good friends for over 60 years. Both true Christians in every way possible.
He worked relentlessly with the church, senior groups and many other groups in his lifetime. He was President of many of them, Vice President or Sec.
He did craft shows and fairs all over the Valley, too many places to mention selling candy, fudge, pewter, jewelry and in his later years even worked as a salesman at fairs for a roofing business.
He had tons of friends everywhere he went. Such a likable guy and so ordinary.
We were shocked to learn of his passing May 2nd.
We had just been at his sister Etta's burial on April 29th in Pakenham. He did not look good that day at all and very short of breath. He told us he was waiting to have a valve replacement. Doug had just been through so much the last few years, cancer, heart problems, leg problems but he continued on with his work and friendship with people.
There are so many things I could write about Douglas Fleming but there is only so much room here.
We Love You Doug and will miss you so Much.
We know you are continuing on your work up in Heaven and you are back again with your Parents, three sisters, Dot and so many others you were close to. Sharon & Ken Martinsen - You are an Angel

Doug was a vital and energetic presence wherever he went. He was curious about everyone and everything, and that made him interesting. I only know of a few of his hobbies (jewelry making, poetry, and music) but I suspect he had many. Doug was a stalwart on the local live music scene, and it was always a delight to see his bright green sweater in the front row at Folkus. He will be missed.
